Your adventure begins at the gate of Kilimanjaro, where anticipation fills the air. After registration and a thorough briefing from your lead guide, you step into one of the mountain's most enchanting environments: the dense montane rainforest. As you enter, the world transforms — mist hangs between towering trees, monkeys leap overhead, and birds sing you forward.
The trail winds upward through a cathedral of moss-draped trees alive with birdsong and the occasional glimpse of blue monkeys and colourful sunbirds. After approximately 8km and 3–4 hours of hiking, you arrive at Mandara Hut, a charming cluster of A-frame cabins set in a forest clearing at 2,700m.
Settle in, enjoy a hot lunch, and if energy allows, take a short optional walk (45 mins round-trip) to the picturesque Maundi Crater on the forest edge — with sweeping views stretching all the way into Kenya. Dinner is served at the hut mess hall as your body begins to acclimatise.
