DAY TWO

Arusha → Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast, you depart for Lake Manyara National Park for a full day of game drives through one of Tanzania's most dramatically located wildlife areas. The park sits at the base of the Great Rift Valley's towering western escarpment — a breathtaking natural backdrop for an extraordinary wildlife experience.

The shallow soda lake — covering two-thirds of the park — teems with life. Africa's largest concentrations of elephants roam the groundwater forest, while thousands of pink flamingos line the alkaline shores in shimmering clouds. Keep a keen eye in the ancient acacia trees for Lake Manyara's legendary tree-climbing lions — a phenomenon virtually unique to this park in all of East Africa.

The Rift escarpment forms a dramatic backdrop as you search the dense canopy for colobus monkeys, observe hippos in shaded pools, and scan the lake shore for hundreds of bird species. As the golden afternoon light bathes the rift wall, you'll drive to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY THREE

Lake Eyasi – Full Day Tribal Cultural Experience

After breakfast, the day takes an extraordinary cultural turn as you head to Lake Eyasi — a picturesque creation of the Great Rift Valley that few travellers ever discover. The lake shore is home to two remarkable and entirely different indigenous peoples: the Hadza and the Datooga.

The Hadza are among the last true hunter-gatherers on Earth. Once nomadic, they settled along the Eyasi shores, and their ancestral skills of survival remain astoundingly intact. You'll have the rare privilege of joining Hadza hunters on a morning hunt — learning to use their handcrafted bows, tracking game through the bush, and glimpsing an ancient way of life that has changed little in thousands of years.

In contrast, the Datooga — driven to this remote corner by rival tribes — are skilled cattle-breeders and craftsmen. Being so far from the developing world, both communities have retained their traditional lifestyles, allowing visitors to genuinely immerse themselves in the atmosphere of primal African life. This is one of the most profound and unforgettable experiences of the entire safari.

DAY FOUR

Karatu → Ngorongoro Crater → Serengeti

Today is one of the most spectacular days of the entire journey. Your safari heads south to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the 7 wonders of the natural world (approximately 6 hours, 180 km). After pausing on the crater rim for a breathtaking panoramic view, you'll descend 600 metres into this magnificent ancient caldera.

The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most densely populated wildlife areas on Earth — an estimated 30,000 animals call this 260 km² natural enclosure home. Year-round water and abundant fodder sustain vast herds of wildebeest, zebras, buffalo, elands, warthogs, and hippos. The crater is also home to one of Africa's last healthy populations of the critically endangered black rhino.

The predator density here is extraordinary — lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the ever-elusive leopard are all resident in the crater. You'll enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor surrounded by wildlife on all sides. In the afternoon, you'll drive onwards to Serengeti National Park for your first overnight in the legendary plains.

DAY FIVE

Serengeti Central – Seronera Valley Game Drive

Your first full day in the Serengeti is dedicated to the legendary Seronera Valley — the beating heart of the central Serengeti and one of Africa's finest year-round wildlife destinations. You can choose between a relaxed 9:00 AM departure or an exhilarating early morning game drive from 6:00 AM to catch the first golden light breaking over the endless plains.

The Seronera River and its tributaries provide permanent water that attracts resident game year-round. This is prime leopard territory — keep a sharp eye in the flat-topped acacia trees where these elusive cats are regularly spotted draped across branches with their kills. Cheetahs are frequently seen on open termite mounds scanning the grasslands, while lion prides lounge in the shade between hunts.

Vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, and Thomson's gazelle carpet the open plains as far as the eye can see. Your guide will use their expert knowledge to track predator-prey interactions, reading the landscape for behavioural cues that most visitors miss entirely. Return to camp in the evening with stories already worth telling.

DAY SIX

Serengeti Central → Serengeti North (Kogatende / Mara River)

After an early breakfast and with packed lunch boxes prepared, you depart northwards for one of the most dramatic landscapes in the entire Serengeti ecosystem — the Kogatende region and the world-famous Mara River. The drive itself is a game drive, offering excellent wildlife sightings along the way.

As you travel north, the Serengeti's character transforms dramatically — the flat open plains give way to rolling hills, rocky kopjes, riverine forests, and broken terrain. This northern zone supports a rich permanent wildlife community: zebra, topi, buffalo, giraffe, eland, leopard, and lion are all consistently present. En-route stops will be made wherever wildlife action unfolds.

Upon arriving in the north, you'll position yourself at the Mara River — the iconic crossing point of the Great Migration. During peak migration season (July–October), enormous columns of wildebeest and zebra charge down the steep riverbanks and plunge into the crocodile-filled waters in one of nature's most heart-stopping spectacles. The atmosphere at the river crossing is electric and utterly unforgettable. Dinner and overnight at the migration camp beneath an infinite canopy of stars.

DAY SEVEN

Serengeti North → Lake Natron

After an early breakfast, your day begins around 6:00 AM with packed lunch boxes as you depart for one of Tanzania's most surreal and otherworldly destinations — Lake Natron. The drive across the Rift Valley reveals ever-changing landscapes of dramatic volcanic beauty, with Mount Ol Doinyo Lengai — the "Mountain of God" — rising majestically on the horizon.

Lake Natron is a genuinely extraordinary natural spectacle. Its highly alkaline, shallow waters (averaging just one metre in depth) glow in shades of crimson and burnt orange — a hauntingly beautiful sight unlike anywhere else on Earth. After checking into your lodge, lace up your walking shoes as a Maasai tribesman guide leads you on a memorable walk along the shores of Lake Natron, searching for birds and especially the magnificent lesser flamingos.

Lake Natron is the most important and regular breeding site for lesser flamingos in all of East Africa — hosting up to 2 million birds during breeding season, which runs from September to January. After the hike, return to the lodge for a well-deserved dinner and rest beside one of Africa's most magical landscapes.

DAY EIGHT

Lake Natron → Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, you embark on the drive to Tarangire National Park for a morning game drive through one of Tanzania's most visually distinctive landscapes. The park runs along the line of the Tarangire River and is defined by the iconic silhouettes of giant African baobab trees against the golden savannah — a photographer's dream.

Tarangire's natural vegetation of acacia woodland and vast southern swamp areas acts like a magnet for wildlife during Tanzania's dry season — drawing animals from across the Rift Valley in extraordinary concentrations. The park is internationally renowned for containing some of Africa's largest elephant herds — you may encounter groups of 50 or more elephants at a single waterhole.

Tarangire is also home to three rare species found almost nowhere else: the Greater Kudu with its magnificent spiral horns, the elegant Fringed-Eared Oryx, and the brilliant Ashy Starling. The Tarangire River itself, alive with hippos and crocodiles, snakes through the park, providing a stunning backdrop to your final game drive of the safari.

DAY NINE

Tarangire → Kilimanjaro International Airport — Departure

After a final leisurely breakfast at Roika Tented Camp, your Wildflip Safaris guide will transfer you from Tarangire to Kilimanjaro International Airport in time for your onward flight. The drive offers one last opportunity to savour the stunning Tanzanian landscapes that have been your backdrop for the past nine extraordinary days.

You'll depart Tanzania with hearts full of incredible memories — the thundering hooves of the Great Migration, the ancient silence of the Ngorongoro Crater, the surreal pink shores of Lake Natron, the warmth of Hadza hunters at Lake Eyasi, and the majestic calm of elephant herds at Tarangire. Tanzania has a way of calling people back, and we have no doubt this will not be your last visit.

What Our Travellers Say

★★★★★

“The migration crossing at the Mara River was the most breathtaking thing I’ve ever witnessed. Thousands of wildebeest plunging into the river while crocodiles waited — it was pure, raw nature at its most dramatic. Wildflip’s guide knew exactly where to position us. Nine days, five parks — absolute perfection.”

★★★★★

“The Hadza hunting experience at Lake Eyasi was completely unexpected and utterly unforgettable. Nothing like any safari I’d done before. Then to follow that with the flamingo walk at Lake Natron and then the Serengeti migration — this itinerary has everything. Worth every single dollar.”

★★★★★

“We chose the Elite Wilderness tier and it was absolutely faultless. The bush dinner in the Serengeti under a canopy of stars, a private vehicle throughout, and descending into Ngorongoro at dawn with not another vehicle in sight — pure magic. Wildflip Safaris exceeded every expectation.”
