Package Overview

A Journey Through the Endless Plains

This 4-day safari delivers the very best of northern Tanzania’s most iconic wildlife landscapes. Begin in the legendary Serengeti National Park — renowned for its endless grassland plains in the southeast, hilly and rocky northern country, and forested river valleys to the west. The land feels like untamed wilderness, and all the major safari animals occur in extraordinary numbers, with the Serengeti ecosystem supporting the greatest remaining concentration of plains game in Africa.

From the Seronera River and its kopje-strewn central plains, you’ll head south into the famed Ndutu region — part of the route for the annual migration of more than two million wildebeest and thousands of zebra, antelope and gazelle. Between December and April these fertile plains transform into a vast calving ground, drawing predators in dramatic numbers. The journey culminates with a half-day descent into the Ngorongoro Crater — locally known as the “Garden of Animals” — where the Big Five can be seen in a single day.

What Makes This Safari Unforgettable

Endless Plains

The Serengeti — its name literally means "endless plains" — stretches grassland to the horizon over 14,763 km².

Lions of Seronera

Central Serengeti is famed for some of Africa's densest lion and leopard populations along the Seronera River.

Ndutu Calving

Witness wildebeest calving — half a million calves born in just three weeks during the Dec–April season.

Ngorongoro Crater

Descend 600m into a UNESCO-listed caldera home to 30,000 animals — the legendary "Garden of Animals".

Black Rhino Country

The Crater is one of the very last refuges in Africa for the critically endangered black rhino.

Iconic Kopjes

Climb to viewpoints atop the Serengeti's massive granite kopjes — sea-of-grass vistas in every direction.

Day by Day

Your 4 Days Itinerary

1
DAY ONE

Arusha → Serengeti National Park

Your safari begins at 8:00 AM with a pickup from your hotel in Arusha. With everyone aboard your 4×4 Land Cruiser, you'll head west towards the legendary Serengeti National Park — a 337 km drive covered in roughly 6 hours of beautiful, ever-changing scenery.

The Serengeti — meaning "endless plains" in the local Maa language — is a sight that puts every notion of distance to shame. Watching the grasslands stretch out as far as the eye can see, eventually merging with the sky at the horizon, is an absolutely breathtaking introduction to the wilderness. With an overall area of 14,763 sq km, the park houses the glorious Big Five (elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, and leopard), alongside one of Africa's most beautiful animals — the impala.

The Serengeti ecosystem supports the greatest remaining concentration of plains game in Africa, and the central Seronera area is one of its richest wildlife habitats. The Seronera River provides a year-round water source, attracting wildlife representative of nearly every Serengeti species — most especially the celebrated lion prides that thrive here. Keep an eye out for the iconic Serengeti kopjes — massive granite boulders standing in a sea of grass, providing shelter for a remarkable variety of flora and fauna. Picnic lunch is enjoyed during the day-long game drive itself. The eventful day ends with a hearty dinner and a restful night in camp.

DAY TWO

Serengeti → Ndutu Area

An early breakfast in camp sets you up for a productive morning game drive across the central Serengeti — the cool light of dawn brings predators out into the open and delivers some of the most rewarding wildlife encounters of the trip. After lunch you'll continue south, following the migration routes towards the Ndutu region on the southern edge of the Serengeti ecosystem.

Once at Ndutu, you'll begin an evening game drive through landscape that has earned a near-mythical place in wildlife travel. Ndutu forms a vital part of the route for the annual migration of more than 2 million wildebeest and thousands of zebra, antelope and gazelle. Between December and April, these fertile plains turn into the calving ground and nursery of the Great Migration — with around half a million wildebeest calves born in just three weeks. This season inevitably attracts vast numbers of predators preying on vulnerable young — meaning lion, cheetah and hyena sightings are at their most spectacular. After this unforgettable game-viewing session, you'll head to camp where a freshly prepared dinner awaits.

DAY THREE

Ndutu → Ngorongoro Crater → Karatu

Today the safari adventure turns south and continues to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area — a UNESCO World Heritage Site once celebrated as one of the seven wonders of the world (approximately 6 hours / 180 km). You'll then descend 600 metres into this magnificent crater for a half-day game drive.

The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most densely populated wildlife areas anywhere in Africa, home to an estimated 30,000 animals — including some of Tanzania's last remaining black rhino. Supported by year-round water and abundant fodder, the crater sustains vast variety: herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo and giant African elephants. Another big drawcard is its huge population of predators — lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard. You'll enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor, surrounded by wildlife on all sides, before climbing back up to the rim and continuing on to your highland lodge in Karatu for the evening.

DAY FOUR

Karatu → Kilimanjaro International Airport · Departure

After a relaxed breakfast at your Karatu lodge, you'll be transferred in comfort to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight home. It has been an extraordinary journey — and you'll leave with a phone full of pictures, a heart full of memories, and a wealth of stories to share with family and friends back home. Tanzania has a way of staying with its visitors long after they've gone; many travellers find themselves planning a return before they've even landed.

What Our Travellers Say

★★★★★

“Four days felt like a lifetime of experiences in the best way. Ndutu in February was unreal — newborn wildebeest calves taking their first steps while a cheetah family watched from a kopje. We went straight from there to lions on a kill in the Crater. Wildflip’s planning was flawless from minute one.”

Sarah & Tom — United Kingdom· March 2026
★★★★★

“We chose the Premium Explorer tier and it was outstanding. Kontiki camps are gorgeous, the private vehicle gave us so much flexibility, and we added the balloon safari over the Serengeti at sunrise — pure cinema. Our guide Emmanuel knew exactly where to be at every moment of the day.”

Marcus B. — Germany· February 2026
★★★★★

“Perfect length for a first Tanzania safari — three iconic destinations, no rushed feeling, every day completely different. The Ngorongoro Crater on day three was the highlight of my trip — Big Five in a single morning, picnic lunch on the floor surrounded by wildebeest. Already planning to come back.”
